Abstract

A geophysical investigation has been made of a small pipe, suspected to be kimberlite, in northern Nigeria, which is associated with pipes in Mali and the Central African Empire. Detailed interpretation of the gravity and magnetic data determined the structure to a depth of 0.5 km. Electrical resistivity sounding and seismic refraction measurements were used to investigate the top layers. Resistivity profiling and SP measurements showed small but distinct anomalies over the diatreme.
